Erin George is an experienced lawyer who has practiced law in a variety of areas of law and provinces and territories across the country. Her current practice focuses on all issues affecting families, including divorce, parenting, child protection, emergency protection orders, wills and estates, and guardianship and trusteeship.
Erin is a kind and compassionate advocate who works hard to help clients reduce conflict and resolve their issues as efficiently and peacefully as possible. She believes that many of the legal disputes that families face are best resolved outside the formal Court process through mediation, negotiation and other dispute resolution processes.
Erin obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Concordia University in Montreal in 2000 and common law and civil law degrees from McGill University in 2005. She was first admitted to the Barreau du Quebec in 2006 and practiced in Montreal for several years. She then moved to Iqaluit, Nunavut to work with the Government of Nunavut. Erin held various legal positions with the Government of Nunavut and gained experience in a wide variety of practice areas, including legislative drafting, administrative law and residential tenancies matters. In particular, Erin developed extensive experience in wills and estates and guardianship and trusteeship law through her work with the Nunavut Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee.
Erin moved to Edmonton and joined Long Family Law Group LLP in November 2022. She is a current member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Law Society of the Northwest Territories and the Law Society of Nunavut.
Erin has more than a decade of experience working and living in Northern Canada and continues to have an active practice in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. She is a panel lawyer for the Northwest Territories Legal Aid Commission, the Northwest Territories Office of the Children’s Lawyer, as well as the YWCA Northwest Territories Independent Legal Advice and Representation program, which provides legal assistance to people who have experienced family violence.
Erin is the current Chair of the discipline committee of the Law Society of Nunavut and in that capacity investigates allegations of breaches of the professional code of conduct by members of the law society.
Erin is fluent in French and happy to provide legal services to clients in either official language.
When not working, Erin likes to spend time with her family and her two big, goofy dogs.
