Marilyn is a native of the Medicine Hat vicinity, having her roots in an agricultural family in the Schuler, Alberta area. Marilyn has been a lawyer at Niblock & Company LLP since 1990.
Marilyn believes that Court has a negative impact on children of divorce – so much so that she no longer does matrimonial litigation. Marilyn’s practice focuses on non-Court family law (Collaboration and Mediation) and corporate/commercial transactions. Since Marilyn began practicing Collaborative Divorce in 2000, she has taken extensive training on communication, human behaviour and understanding conflict. As a result, she possesses a natural skill to work collaboratively with others to be creative in brainstorming options unique to families to help them reach their specific goals. Divorce does not have to mean conflict; many of Marilyn’s clients find that they function better as co-parents after a Collaborative Divorce or Mediation than they did when they parented together as a married couple. Marilyn has influenced many divorcing people over the years by assisting with the presentation of the Parenting After Separation seminar for the last 15 years.
Marilyn has always been active in the community in which she lives. She enjoys time with her family, baseball, walking her puppies and reading. As a step-mom to 3 adult children and a mom to an adult son, Marilyn knows the joys and challenges of blended families.
