In my practice as a collaborative lawyer, I try to make sure the people who are most impacted are the ones making the decisions.
I do not lose sight of the fact that I am trying to help people through the most difficult situations they are faced with. I look at the tools of interest based negotiations as ways of generating options for people when they want to keep the power over their own decisions.
I try very hard to focus on the interests of the parties and to keep their goals in mind in finding practical long term solutions. In my practice I try not to lose sight of the intangible interests that people sometimes find the most important in their day to day lives. Being able to go to graduations, weddings and other family gathering and not have them be awkward because of a family separation can be a huge benefit to many families without having a dollar sign attached to it.
I am very straightforward and timely when dealing with clients and I do my best to communicate effectively.
